Personal branding photoshoot and portraits for actor Daria Shevchenko in Midtown, NYC. A quiet, cinematic take on modern professional photography.

In June, I teamed up with model and actor, Daria Shevchenko for a personal branding lifestyle shoot in Midtown Manhattan and took the Fuji X100V along for the ride. It’s been around a while, with a newer model already out, but the X100V still delivered. Sharp, fast, and full of character, proof that good gear doesn’t age.

Testing the Fuji X100V: First Impressions

I took it out the Fuji in Midtown around lunchtime, right in the thick of it, office crowds, food carts, and a sea of suits on their daily march. Shooting there was half the fun. Some people stopped to look, others barely noticed.

Midday in June isn’t a great time to shoot, but we made it work. Shot in the shadows, the on-camera with TTL, lit up Daria and nailed the balance almost every time, because when you’re young and beautiful, you have the ability to pull off midday sun and still look amazing. For a lifestyle shoot on the move, that mix of speed and dependability is perfect.

A Summer Afternoon with Daria

Midtown Manhattan is a bit of a playground. Towering skyscrapers, textured walls, and endless streams of people, it offered the perfect mix of dynamic environemt.

And Daria, with her effortless style and energy, was an ideal subject for this session. We moved from one spot to another, experimenting with angles and playing with the natural light and mix of TTL.

• Image Quality: The sharpness and color accuracy of the shots were stunning, even straight out of the camera. I would have posted SOOC jpegs, but I still want full control and the ability to tweak some of the colors in post.
