NYC Personal Branding Photoshoot with Daria Shevchenko

Daria is an actor and model based in New York. She came to us for a personal branding session, and we decided to work on location in Midtown, moving through the neighborhood over the course of an afternoon rather than staying in one place.

Midtown at lunchtime is not an obvious place to make portraits. There are office crowds, food carts and constant movement. For the right session, though, that activity gives the photographs a sense of place, and Daria was comfortable working in it from the start.

Shooting on the Move

Midtown gives you plenty of options, but the challenge is using the surroundings without letting them take over the frame.

We moved between several locations, working in open shade where possible and adjusting as the light changed through the afternoon. The session stayed loose, but the direction remained clear, so the final set felt consistent even though the backgrounds kept changing.
