Christine Renee Miller directing and David Pexton shooting on set
Who we are

Partners in work and in life.

David photographs and Christine directs, but in practice the two roles blend. Both of them are engaged with whoever is in front of the camera throughout the session. The difference is simply that David is not trying to do two demanding jobs at once, which means he is entirely in the frame, and Christine is entirely in the room with you.

They are married and have been working together since Christine joined the sessions a few years into David's photography career. The combination changed how the sessions worked, and they haven't gone back.

How a session works

Two people, fully present.

When it is just one photographer in the room, they are managing a lot at once: the light, the settings, the framing, and the conversation with the subject, all at the same time. Something usually gets less attention than it deserves.

With David and Christine, both of them are in it together. David is thinking about the image, Christine is thinking about you, and there is enough attention to go around. The session tends to feel more relaxed as a result, less like something being done to you and more like something you're part of.

People who say they are not good at having their photo taken usually find the session goes better than they expected. That tends to happen when two people are paying close attention rather than one.

We take the work seriously. Not necessarily ourselves.

The people behind the camera

A bit more about us.

David Pexton

Photographer

David moved from the UK to New York City in 2008 for an IT job, and the city got to him quickly. It felt like a movie set, the kind of place where something worth photographing was always happening, and he started shooting not long after arriving.

He started on digital before moving to film, working through SLRs and medium format cameras, different films, lenses, and a lot of experimentation along the way. In 2016 he left the IT career behind and has been shooting full time ever since. He still shoots film for personal projects and the occasional portrait session when it feels right, though client sessions are digital. His prints have been shown at the Saatchi Gallery in London.

Christine Renee Miller

Session Director, Actor, Screenwriter

Christine moved from Dallas, Texas to pursue acting at the age of 15 and has been working in the industry ever since. Her earlier credits include Sister Sister, Days of Our Lives, and Hanging with Mr. Cooper. More recent work includes Ghost, For Life, Blue Bloods, and the film Spoiler Alert, alongside a wide range of commercial work.

She also directs and teaches screenwriting at Wilkes University, and still acts regularly alongside the photography work. What she brings to a session is hard to separate out into individual skills. It is more that years of performing, directing, and teaching people how to inhabit a character have given her a very good eye for what is working and how to get someone there.

Actor headshots, individuals

Come over.
Have a cup of tea.

Actor and individual sessions are based at our home studio in Ditmas Park, Brooklyn. It is a real home, not a rented studio space, and it feels like one. The idea is that you come over, have a cup of tea or a coffee, and the three of you talk through the session before a camera comes out.

Christine goes through what you are looking to achieve together. There is time to try different wardrobe options properly. Nothing is rushed. For a lot of people it is a noticeably different kind of experience from a standard headshot session, and the images tend to reflect that.

The studio is about a five minute walk from the B and Q train at Newkirk Plaza.
