How to Find a Professional Headshot Photographer in New York City
New York has no shortage of photographers. Finding one is easy. Finding one you'll actually trust with something that represents you or your company professionally is a different question.
These are the things worth paying attention to, and how we approach each of them.
Look at the Range of Their Work, Not the Best of It
Anyone can have one great image. What you're looking for is a photographer who consistently makes different people, with different faces and different energy, look genuinely good.
Look at their typical work, not their hero shots. Does it hold up across a range of subjects? Does it work in different environments? If every image on their site looks like it came from the same template, that's what you'll get.
For executive headshots in NYC, range matters in a specific way. A strong corporate headshot photographer can work in a boardroom, a studio, and outside on the same day and make each one feel considered. Consistency across a team is the result of that, not an accident.
Look at How They Work With People
This is the part most people skip, and it's the part that matters most.
A headshot session isn't really a photography session. It's a conversation. The images come from what happens between people, not from the lights or the lens. A photographer who can put someone at ease in the first ten minutes is worth more than one who owns the most expensive equipment in Brooklyn.
When you speak to a photographer, ask them how they work. If the answer is mostly about their camera or their lighting setup, keep looking. The answer should be about people.
Christine handles direction on every session we run. She's an actor and director and she reads people quickly, knowing when someone is tense and what to do about it. Most people forget at some point that we're shooting. That's when the real images happen.
Direction Matters as Much as Light
When someone looks uncomfortable in their headshot, you can see it immediately and you can't retouch it out. It's in the eyes, the jaw, the shoulders.
Getting someone comfortable in front of a camera in the first few minutes is a specific skill. Christine works with every single person we photograph, individually, throughout the session. I handle the technical side. Between us, the human and technical problems get solved simultaneously. Nobody falls through the gap.
This is what clients mention most when they refer us to someone else. Not the gear or the lighting. That the session felt like a conversation rather than a procedure.
“I was desperately looking for a talented photographer for our corporate shots in New York after a disappointing first collaboration where the deliverables simply didn't meet our expectations. Finding David & Christine and their team was the best decision I could have made.”

What a Session With Us Actually Looks Like
We arrive early, set up before the first person comes in, and run to a schedule that gives each person enough time without dragging. Ten to twelve minutes per person is our standard corporate pace. We don't rush the last person any more than the first.
Most of our corporate clients come back. Teams grow, people move on, brands evolve. That repeat work only happens when the first experience was worth repeating. We take that seriously.
If you want to talk through what a session would look like for you or your team, get in touch. No obligation, just a conversation.
